My work:
Batteries are used in watches, mobiles and even cars. We must understand how batteries behave the more they are used to make them work longer and see if there are any safety problems. My work focuses on making, testing and to make batteries work best as possible. I also look inside used batteries with a microscope in the lab to see if anything has changed inside them.
About me:
Country of Origin: Greece
My name is Marianna and I grew up in sunny Athens, in Greece just in the south corner of Europe. I have been living in different parts of United Kingdom since 2017. I have lived in Leicester, Liverpool and in Dundee. Currently, I am a scientist and a researcher. I work in the University of St Andrews in Scotland, which means that I live far from parents and sometimes I miss them. However, I love my work here and also, I love the winter in Scotland, especially during Christmas. That makes me miss them a little bit less. I also have a cat. Her name is Kiki and she is my best friend. I love taking photographs of her and to be honest of everything near me and everywhere I go. Actually, I try to go to a different place every Saturday to explore and discover nice places, villages and cities with my camera. On the other hand, I also love staying home, with some hot chocolate and a nice movie, as most of my friends describe me as a house cat!
Education:
I obtained my diploma in Mining and Metallurgical Engineering from the Technical University of Athens in Greece. Then I moved to Leicester, UK to start my PhD in Chemistry and after that I got two research positions in University of Liverpool and in University of St Andrews.
My favourite subject in school:
Literature, biology and chemistry. I cannot decide!
My hobbies:
I like to take photographs everywhere I go, to play with my cat, grow plants and watch a lot of movies!
